I’m out.
Damn! Not spider bites. I’ve been fighting Folliculitis since Starcrossed.
I got a bad fever and chills on Friday night.
And a few giant abscesses got really infected and swollen. By Sunday I had trouble walking.
So Pete drove me down to the immediate care hospital and the doctor cut holes in my leg, used some nasty pliers to dig around in them, and then packed them full of gauze.
I was a wimp. It hurt like hell!
We’ve got some sweet photos of my writhing under the knife.
The doc was great but, it looks like I’ll be off the bike for another week or more!
Not able to make it out to Ohio this week for the races. And, it is pretty unlikely that I’ll be racing locally either.
What the hell? How much bad luck can one bike racer have?
Well, at least I snagged a couple UCI points with my lackluster last month of racing. I don’t have anything besides the USGP finals on my schedule before nationals and Europe. Not looking so good for the start positions eh?

Poor timing but that stuff happens. You’ll come back stronger.

that is lame!!! My friend had a boil that got infected with staph and it was no joke. Hope you get better quick and get the old epidermis in shape. All the stuff we do to prepare for racing and then it’s something like this, damn

I feel your pain. The same thing happened to me a few years ago. Only, mine was a saddle sore and there was nobody around to take pictures or hold my hand while the nurse and doctors knifed and packed it. You’re lucky that way. Then the sores kept coming, on my traps, my hip, my deltoids. It sucked and it was probably the biggest health scare I’ve ever had. But I don’t get them anymore.
I forget all which creams I used to help but they generally had comfrey in them. Prid helped. Herbal Ed’s helped. I got paranoid and anal and started washing things with Hibiclens and bleach and using Mupirocin ointment on any suspicious scratch or pimple. (But that’s overboard, perhaps.)
BUT! Most importantly! Here’s what saved my ass and kept it from happening again. I shit you not… Buy this stuff and take it every day: Barlean’s Greens ( http://www.barleans.com/greens.asp ) I think it’s vegan. I can’t credit anything else with the fact I haven’t had another problem with folliculitis.
It’s about your immune system. Your training strains it. Keep it strong. Good luck!
